Valentine’s Day astrology this year brings us a full Moon and other highly powerful energies. With a bit of thought and planning, you can enjoy this day’s passion and pleasures as well as make the most of its deeply mystical potentials.
Full Moon Arrives on the 14th
Each year, when Valentine’s Day arrives, the Sun occupies Aquarius. This air sign is known for its coolness, logic, and detachment. In moderation, these traits can help us use our heads to make wise decisions, but in excess they can cause us to forget the importance of feeling and the human heart’s innate wisdom.
This year, we have a grand opportunity to balance our heads with our hearts, as we will experience a full Moon on Valentine’s Day. The Moon will be sitting in bold and fiery Leo, directly opposite the Sun in Aquarius. Earth will sit between the Moon and Sun, prompting us to balance Aquarian thinking with Leo feeling and passion.
Two Other Alignments Bring Yet More High Energy
This year’s Valentine’s Day astrology also is bringing us two astrological formations associated with challenging energies:
- The Sun in Aquarius and Moon in Leo will form a t-square with Saturn in Scorpio, a challenging formation. As all three planets occupy fixed signs, you may experience issues around stubbornness and feeling stuck. This formation will peak on Valentine’s Day but will subside fairly quickly when the Moon moves into Virgo at 1:27 a.m., U.S. central time, the next day.
- Uranus in Aries, Pluto in Capricorn, and Jupiter in Cancer have been in an ongoing t-square formation since December and will remain in range of this alignment until mid-June. As these planets occupy cardinal signs, they are offering us opportunities to take action and turn corners in areas that have resisted improvement up to now.
For both these t-squares, you may find it helpful to note the fourth sign shown in each diagram here, indicated by a pink dot connected to the other planets by pink dotted lines. For the fixed sign t-square, the fourth sign is Taurus; for the cardinal t-square, the fourth sign is Libra. In each case, this fourth sign offers a way to express or release the pressure that can build as part of the t-square so that its energies can be used constructively.
Both Taurus and Libra are ruled by the planet Venus, giving us a beautiful opportunity to tap Venus’s extraordinary power for love and gentleness on what could be a particularly passionate yet potentially stressful Valentine’s Day. As you prepare for this holiday centered around love and relationships, consider how to capitalize on both Taurus and Libra and how you can use these signs’ strengths to adjust as necessary if you feel energies running high or observe others exhibiting difficult behavior or emotions due to stress.
For example, Taurus is associated with values as well as comfort, tradition, and nature’s peace and beauty. As a result, you might especially enjoy a traditional take on Valentine’s Day this year, filled with colorful flowers and delicious food, and you might decide to celebrate at home in order to ensure the day provides the greatest comfort and pleasure. Also, Libra is associated with partnerships as well as socializing, pleasures, and the arts. So you might decide to spend the day with your special someone, perhaps enjoying an outing to an art museum followed by an elegant dinner. If you are unattached, you might spend the occasion with family or with one or more close friends, perhaps enjoying each other’s company as you prepare a special meal together.
Currently, Venus is moving through Capricorn, indicating that pleasures can be found through maturity, sophistication, and moderation—all Capricorn virtues. Grown-up pleasures will be the order of the day, and couples in long term relationships (especially older people and those married or in a formal bond of some kind) may find they especially enjoy what Valentine’s Day brings.
Engage the Mystic Heart
Whether you are attached or unattached on this Valentine’s Day, if you are happy in your current love relationship status, take a moment on February 14 to give thanks and to honor the conscious choices you have made to create harmony in your love life.
If this day finds you unhappy in your relationship status, whether you are attached or unattached, take time around this Valentine’s Day to consider what is causing you distress and how you might improve your situation. Think about how you might draw on Aquarius’s logic as well as Leo’s passion to create a harmonious balance and loving relationships.
Finally, remember that all of us experience many relationships and that all of them require tending in order to thrive. On this holiday devoted to love, consider your relationship with:
- Yourself
- Family, coworkers, neighbors
- All humanity
- Nature and all creation
- The divine and your spirituality
At this potent time not only of Valentine’s Day but of a passionate full Moon in Leo, open your heart and allow Aquarius’s lightning bolts of genius to illuminate your love. Let yourself feel fully on this full Moon day and see how you are moved to respond.
Consider at least one of the relationships listed above and hold it in your heart during meditation on this special day. As you do, tune in to your higher self’s wisdom and visualize the most beautiful and idealistic expression of this particular relationship. See your relationship prospering and becoming a thing of greatness, nobility, and beauty.
As you do, know that your visualization carries greatest power when fueled with heartfelt love and joy. May this Valentine’s Day bring you all that your heart desires on its most elevated plane of expression.
